Overview
I was approached by my friends who recently launched TRULY初来滑板, a skateboard store catering to kids and young adults, offering both skateboards and skateboard courses. Dissatisfied with the designs from a studio, they urgently sought my help, giving me just a week to come up with something.
Despite the time constraint, I embraced the challenge, quickly sketching out ideas and creating a graphic design. Although I hadn't initially planned for this, I enjoyed the spontaneous creative process.
In the end, my sketches and ideas were handed over to the studio designers, who incorporated them into the final logo design.
Brainstorm Ideas
Prior to initiating the design process, I conducted a thorough analysis by asking essential questions:
1. Inquiring about the preferred style with visual examples for reference.
2. Identifying the target customer demographic.
3. Understanding specific design requirements.
Once armed with this information, I delved into the creative process, drawing inspiration from diverse sources. The brainstormed ideas ranged from incorporating elements like cats, dogs, TVs, brains, UFOs, to drawing inspiration from the popular Untitled Goose Game, resulting in a rich pool of concepts to explore further.
Design thoughts
Incorporating a theme of freedom, bravery, and fun, the design aims to strike a balance between a dope style that appeals to kids and an inviting aesthetic for their parents.
To capture the energetic spirit, the use of light colors is emphasized.
The goal is to create a visually engaging and lively design that resonates with the target audience while maintaining a sense of playfulness and style.
Result
After exploring various ideas, the final choice leaned towards the skater cat wearing sunglasses and the UFO design.
The skaters preferred the UFO, ultimately selecting it as the official logo.
They enlisted the design studio to bring my sketch to life. In my spare time, I couldn't resist designing the dope cat – because, who doesn't love a skating cat?
The following is the final logo designed by the design studio based on my sketches
